Rio Grande Valley & Texas Drought Update (7/14/2011)

The U.S. Drought Monitor has released this week’s drought conditions around the nation. Here is how they are classifying the state of Texas:

Figure 1. Drought Monitor updated on 7/14/2011 for the state of Texas.

Though conditions have greatly improved over the Rio Grande Valley with all the rain over the past 3 weeks, we still remain under drought conditions.  Starr County is feeling the worst of the drought as of right now (Extreme Drought), with Cameron and Willacy Counties only under a “Moderate Drought”.  The further north of the Valley, the worse the drought conditions get, with the exception of extreme northern/northeastern Texas.
